POTTSTOWN PA – The popular Pottstown “Tuesdays in the Park Ice Cream Runs,” available as both a ticketed 5-K race for adults and a free fun run for kids, will return monthly beginning May 28 (2024) at 6:45 p.m. to the borough’s Riverfront Park on College Drive. The four-event training series is organized by the Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department.
The remaining three Tuesday runs are also scheduled, for June 25, July 23, and Aug. 27 respectively.
The course is flat and fast, the department said. Prize medals will be awarded to first overall male and female, as well as first, second, and third place finishers in each of 10 different age groups.
Additionally, every child participating in the fun run receives a prize, all runners (kids and adults) receive free ice cream treats after the event, and runners age 21 and older also receive a free beer at Iron Gate Biergarten, 230 E. High St.
Advance registration for each of the 5-Ks costs $22.50, but those signing up for a “bundle” of all four races will receive a $5 per race discount, representing a total $20 savings. Bundlers also will receive a free race T-shirt. Don’t wait until the last minute, by the way; race day registrations will cost $25.
The 5-K crowd can expect some fun competition. As of Tuesday (May 21), six different groups had already registered social teams involving 24 runners, and more are anticipated.
The races are sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, Iron Gate Biergarten, Keystone Running and Walking, and Orange Theory.
Got time to volunteer?
The Parks and Recreation Department is in search of volunteers to help during the May 28 race at the park. It hopes to find two helpers for race day registrations, and another two to serve as course marshals. If you’ve got time to spare, click on the “Volunteer” button for either position at the Volunteers Page online.
