YWCA Schedules May 17 Trauma-Informed Training Workshop

YWCA Schedules May 17 Trauma-Informed Training Workshop

May 7, 2024

POTTSTOWN PA – An online workshop intended to help individuals affected by trauma, as well as provide professionals with tools to better understand and assist others dealing with traumatic events, is planned for mid-May by the YWCA Tri-County Area.

Presented by the YWCA’s Trauma and Prevention Services Department, the virtual workshop titled “Restoring Hope: Trauma 101” is scheduled for May 17 (2024; Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Zoom conferencing platform. Registration is currently available online, with a ticket cost of $25 per person.

The workshop recognizes May as National Trauma and Mental Health Awareness Month, and is part of its related “#WeHealUs campaign”. YWCA Tri-County reports the event “aims to educate and empower individuals and communities to navigate the complexities of trauma with compassion and understanding.”

Trauma looms as a major problem within the U.S. More than 67 percent of the population, according to research statistics cited by the Y, “has faced at least one adverse childhood experience.” The extent of trauma reflects its “pervasive impact” on society, it added, and the need for sessions like “Restoring Hope: Trauma 101.”

“It’s a catalyst for change,” department Director Kristie Piacine says of the workshop.

Participants will be involved in what the Y describes as “an immersive journey into the realm of trauma.” They can expect to gain “invaluable insights into its neurological, psychological, and social dimensions,” it noted. The multimedia presentation “invites professionals and community members alike to collaborate in constructing a comprehensive understanding of trauma and its far-reaching effects.”

“By equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize and respond to trauma,” Piacine indicates, “we empower them to foster healing and resilience within themselves and their communities.”

For more information about the session, send an e-mail to Piacine at kpiacine@ywcatricountyarea.org.

The YWCA Tri-County’s trauma training learning series consists of several program topics, its website shows. Sessions are led by professionals certified by Lakeside Global Institute, which specializes in related educational and treatment services.
