LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Controlled blasting of rock, necessary to excavate areas for drainage construction along U.S. Route 422 in Lower Pottsgrove, will result in occasional traffic stoppages or paces on the highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
Work on a project to improve 2.1 miles of the expressway, of which the blasting is one of several parts, is scheduled to be conducted between Monday and Friday (April 29 to May 3, 2024). A list of planned traffic controls during the week, offered by the department, includes:
- An overnight lane closure Monday through Thursday (April 29 to May 2) from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning on westbound 422, between state Route 724 and state Route 100, for installation of Intelligent Transportation System components;
- A periodic lane and shoulder closure Monday through Friday (May 3) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on eastbound 422, between Keim Street and Evergreen Road, for roadway construction;
- A periodic lane closure Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on westbound 422, between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard, for roadway construction;
- A lane closure with flagging Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sanatoga Road, between Linfield Road and High Street, for bridge construction; and
- Intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages and traffic paces Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in both directions on 422, between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard, for controlled blasting.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. Backups and delays will occur, PennDOT warned. All scheduled activities will depend on acceptable weather, it added.
Under this project, 422 will be reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, and an existing single-span bridge carrying 422 over Porter Road, will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge. The bridge carrying 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will be reconstructed and widened.
