Waiting on a Gazzos Cheese Steak? Patience, Please!
POTTSTOWN PA – Perfection, Gazzos Steaks fans will tell you, takes time.
A crowd can be seen regularly Tuesdays through Sundays, beginning at around 11 a.m., outside the Gazzos Steaks food truck parked at 1386 N. State St. Every once in awhile, someone will complain on Facebook about their wait to get any one (and often more) of five cheese steak or two other sandwiches on its menu.
The wait can occasionally be “long-ish,” some patrons agree, but they quickly note that several reasons apply. Early orders have been placed ahead, usually by phone (484-802-7070). The staff can move only so fast. And the truck’s supply of ingredients is limited.
Sell-outs of meals by the hundreds are common at Gazzos; the latest occurred Wednesday (April 17, 2024).
Yes, the food is that popular. Gazzos just won the “Best Cheesesteak in MontCo” honor from the MontCo 2024 Happening List. It’s the subject of about a dozen high-praise videos. As of Thursday (April 18) it had collected 376 overwhelmingly positive Google reviews, with an average rating of 4.7 of 5 available points. The product “absolutely lived up to the hype,” one reviewer stated.
The fanbase likely will get even bigger soon. The “FYI Philly” team from Philadelphia Channel 6 ABC-TV has already completed a broadcast story about the truck; its hard-working owners and South Philly natives, Joe Lewis and Mike Lamson; and Gazzos growth. The show’s segment is reportedly set to air April 27 (Saturday).
Gazzos founders intend to capitalize on the public love, in part by opening a full restaurant at 22 S. Hanover St. The space, however, is still in various stages of renovation and improvement. A sign hanging in the window there (at right) declares the obvious: “Not Open Yet!”
The restaurant also plays a role in the FYI Philly piece. A worker at the site Tuesday afternoon (April 16) said it could be completed soon. Once that happens, according to Pottstown Patch, the Gazzos truck could be headed to Phoenixville and set up shop outside Twelve78 Brewing.
The owners, on Gazzos Instagram page, promise a South Hanover Street “grand opening (is) coming” and, they also add, “we are excited for the next chapter.”
All it will take is just a little more time.
At Chili’s Restaurants, a Coffee Martini Twist
On Monday (April 15), Chili’s Grill & Bar – which operates in Stowe (at Upland Square), King of Prussia, and Wyomissing – nationally introduced its version of an espresso martini.
Instead of creating it with vodka, though, the drink is made with Lunazul-brand Reposado Tequila, Captain Morgan-brand Spiced Rum, Monin-brand Agave Nectar, and Owen’s Espresso Martini Mix, and garnished with coffee beans.
Chili’s has built a reputation on its margaritas, “but we make some fantastic cocktails, too,” its Vice President of Marketing Jesse Johnson said. The new martini can be enjoyed with its “big mouth burgers, Chicken Crispers, (and) full-on sizzling fajitas,” a media release noted.
Rita’s Offers New Takes with Oreo Cookies
Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, with locations in Pottstown, Boyertown, North Coventry, Royersford, Zieglerville, Collegeville, Harleysville, and Pennsburg, has partnered with Oreo cookie-maker Mondelez International Inc. to add Oreos to two new products. They became available Monday for a limited time, QSR Magazine reported.
The first is a Cold Brew Frozen Coffee made with Oreo cookies, which expands its current cold brew line-up of original, mocha, and caramel flavors. It’s made with Rita’s vanilla ice, custard, cold brew coffee, the Oreos, and topped with whipped cream.
The second is Rita’s Cookies n’ Cream Concrete. The treat is described as “a blend of creamy vanilla frozen custard swirled with Oreo cookie pieces.”
