POTTSTOWN PA – Wawa Stores observe the company’s 60th anniversary Tuesday (April 16, 2024) by offering free coffees to all customers at all locations nationwide, it said. The chain expects to dole out more than 1.5 million cups of the hot aromatic brew throughout the day, it added.
In what it called “a tradition that highlights the company’s gratitude and community spirit,” Wawa also is promoting 60-cent purchases of birthday cake doughnuts, teas, juices, and lemonade. Each Wawa store also “will honor a standout customer with a ‘Day Brightener’ sash, a special mug, and a week’s supply of free coffee.”
Additionally, Wawa and the Wawa Foundation announced they would distribute $1 million in gift cards to several of their “charity partners.” They include the Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, the Children’s Miracle Network, and the USO.
Wawa opened its first store in Folsom PA on April 16, 1964. Tuesday’s customers can expect to see 1960s-themed decorations, including vintage cups and hoagie wrappers. Company CEO Chris Gheysens said the was intended to replicate the era of the first store’s inception.
