HARLEYSVILLE PA – Does your home have chemical cleaners accumulating beneath the kitchen sink? Are liquid bug sprays and bottles of weed killer lining shelves in the cellar? If they’re not being used, you could soon get rid of that potentially toxic waste.

Montgomery County will hold six household hazardous waste collection events during the next eight months. The first is scheduled for April 27 (make a reservation now) from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Indian Valley Middle School, 130 Maple Ave., Harleysville PA.

Another is planned for Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Spring-Ford 9th Grade Center, 400 S. Lewis Rd., Royersford.

Additionally, Chester County will provide four locations for its own household hazardous waste collections, and also will serve as a host for Montgomery County residents’ drop-offs. One will be available in Phoenixville.

Advance online registration is required. The service is free and open to the public, but the number of available time slots may be limited. In some cases, only a few afternoon bookings remain. One reason why: Travels With The Post and other media outlets first announced the program dates in early February. That’s when a surge of homeowners initially signed up.

Both the MontCo Recycles and Chester County collections are intended for residents only, and not for businesses or contractors, their websites explained. Televisions, appliances and electronic devices, and latex paint, will NOT be accepted at any events. Montgomery County offers two online lists of what contributors can, and cannot, drop off.

What will you do to recycle things you can’t drop off? Montgomery County covers that, too, with an online guide.
