PENNSBURG PA – Candace Kintzer Perry, curator of collections for the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center at 105 Seminary St., will be honored Monday (April 15, 2024) for her individual contributions to the promotion and understanding of regional history.
Perry’s career at the Schwenkfelder Center began in 1998, as its first and only curator. She and a second individual both will be recognized by PA Museums, Pennsylvania’s non-profit and statewide museum association, with Individual Achievement Awards during its April 14-16 annual conference in Harrisburg. The association serves 370 members across the Commonwealth.
The Schwenkfelder’s staff and board of directors nominated Perry to acknowledge “her work focusing on the history of this region over the last 25 years,” center Executive Director Beth Twiss Houting said in a media release. Perry’s “leadership and professional work have both increased the institution’s capacity through collection building, and advanced its place in the community through outreach.”
She is a well-regarded speaker, frequently featured in the center’s Life-Long Learning programs and Brown Bag Lectures. Perry also has emerged as an expert on Pennsylvania German culture.
Perry is credited for many center exhibitions over the years, including those in recently added space that features the area’s rural history. She also has helped peer organizations, such as the Goschenhoppen Historians and the Mennonite Heritage Center, with grant writing and joint program development.
About the award
Since the 1980s, PA Museums has invited nominations from its membership and chosen institutions, projects, and individuals to be recognized. The awards “are meant to inspire the museum field and impress museum visitors,” Rusty Baker, its executive director said. “Pennsylvania’s museums and historical organizations have so much to offer, and we are proud to recognize (their) great work.”
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Admission to visit exhibits or research in the library is free.
