POTTSTOWN PA – Mixed-media artist and instructor Amy Schade will present a discussion on and demonstration of her technique during the “April Masters of Art” talk planned by the Pottstown Area Artists Guild.
The program is scheduled for April 15 (2024; Monday) at 7 p.m. in the Boyer Gallery of The Hill School Center for the Arts, 760 Beech St. It’s free to attend and open to the public, but advance registration is requested and is available online.
Schade’s creations rely on collage elements, acrylic paint, markers, crayons, and hand-made papers, but often start “with basic design elements as a base upon which to build,” she says. “Many times my work begins with a very ‘loose’ sketch or plan, which is sometimes altered as the work progresses or is abandoned altogether as I make design decisions. Works can be both non-objective or image-based.”
Sometimes, they even tend to build themselves. “Occasionally,” Schade acknowledges, “I start applying new elements to existing paintings just to learn what may develop.”
“I believe the most engaging artwork is created when one successfully executes images that combine the conceptual and intuitive with the real and concrete,” Schade notes. “Integrating the literal and figurative, I encourage viewers to arrive at their own interpretation under the influence of suggestion. The result? Viewers may respond “not to how an artwork looks, but rather how it feels.”
