KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Portions of a roughly 20-mile stretch of U.S. Route 422, from the Keim Street ramps in Kenilworth to the Route 23 interchange in Valley Forge, will be busy with construction activity in the coming week (April 7, Sunday, through April 11, Thursday).
The King of Prussia office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Wednesday (April 3, 2024) announced in a media release that drivers could expect several travel restrictions:
- A single-lane overnight closure Sunday through Thursday, occurring weekly into late September, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning on eastbound 422, between the Oaks and Route 23 interchanges across Upper Providence and Lower Providence townships, for saw-cutting and concrete patching;
- A single-lane closure Monday through Thursday (April 8-11) from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on westbound 422, between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard across Lower Pottsgrove Township, for shoulder reconstruction;
- An overnight lane closure Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning on eastbound 422, between Keim Street and Evergreen Road across North Coventry and Lower Pottsgrove, for shoulder reconstruction and clearing; and
- Intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages and traffic paces Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on east- and westbound 422, also between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard, for controlled blasting.
PennDOT recommended drivers allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. Backups and delays will occur, it warned. All scheduled activities depend on acceptable weather.
On Route 23 in Schuylkill Township
Additionally, PennDOT separately reported a restriction involving:
- A lane closure Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 23, between Country Club Road and Valley Creek Road in Schuylkill Township, for fiber optic line installation.
The shoulder reconstruction, blasting, clearing and fiber optic installations are part of an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve 422, and replace two bridges, between its Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road. The saw-cutting and concrete patching are part of a $6.9 million project to rehabilitate pavement on eastbound 422 between its Route 29 and Route 363 interchanges.
