Volunteer Planters Needed in ChesCo for April ‘Treelay’

March 18, 2024

LANCASTER PA – Volunteer help is being sought for the 2024 edition of “Treelay,” a tree-planting relay marathon that will occur, in part, at two southern Chester County locations, according to the Lancaster office of The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.

Treelay, last held in 2022, is an attempt by the alliance to plant thousands of trees during a 24-hour period throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The watershed is a giant system of creeks, streams, and rivers across six states, including Pennsylvania, that all flow into the bay.

Among six Treelay sites selected in Pennsylvania are two in Chester County:

  • Upper Oxford Township Arboretum in Oxford PA, where 600 trees are scheduled to be planted April 5 (2024; Friday) from 5-9 p.m.; and
  • Big Elk Creek State Park in Landenberg PA, where 1,500 trees are scheduled to be planted April 6 from noon to 5 p.m.

Specific destinations for both, and directions to reach the planting sites, are disclosed to volunteers when they register. Registration is available online.
