WARRENDALE PA – It’s about a 4-1/2-hour drive from Pottstown west to Warrendale PA, just north of Pittsburgh. If you’re a seafood fanatic, though, the trip could be worthwhile.
An article published Friday (March 8, 2024) by Yelp, the restaurant rating and review website, claims “Off The Hook” in Warrendale is the only Pennsylvania location to rate among its national choices for “Top 100 Seafood Spots 2024.”
It may be a miracle one restaurant in the entire state even earned a mention. As Wikipedia notes, “of the original Thirteen Colonies, Pennsylvania is the only state that does not border the Atlantic Ocean.”
But author Jeanne O’Brien Coffey, reporting for Yelp, wrote that the Top 100 represent “all the best catches” nationwide for everything “from classic crab cakes and lobster rolls, to unique ceviche tostadas and crab-topped fry bread.” Off the Hook, she indicated, and 99 other “seafood experts on this year’s list take fish very seriously, consistently bringing diners the tastiest treats of the sea.”
What’s popular on the menu
Among most popular seafood dishes on the Off The Hook menu are, according to reviewers’ mentions, its oysters on the half-shell, crab cake, calamari, classic New England lobster roll, New England jumbo sea scallops (produced in several styles, including one featuring pistachio nuts), Cajun shrimp, stuffed jumbo shrimp, tuna sashimi, and Florida black grouper.
Off The Hook has received a total of 490 reviews on Yelp, the vast majority of them favorable, resulting in a rating of 4.3 stars of a maximum 5. It was last reviewed by a customer on March 3 (Sunday). “This was honestly one of the best meals of my life,” one Pittsburgh resident gushed. “Definitely the best lobster roll I have had,” another from nearby Coraopolis PA said.
Off The Hook is located in the Warrendale Village shopping center, 908 Warrendale Village Dr., Warrendale PA. It’s stated business hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 5-9:30 p.m.; Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5-10 p.m.; and Saturdays from 5-10 p.m. The restaurant is closed Sundays.
The remainder of Yelp’s Top 100 Seafood Spots 2024 features an abundance of restaurants in states you’d easily guess: California (11), North Carolina (7), South Carolina (7), New York (5), and Oregon (3) … but, surprisingly, also only one each in Massachusetts and Maine.
