Use What’s Fresh to Create Tasty, Weight-Losing Meals

March 4, 2024

SKIPPACK PA – You can lose weight and improve your health by cooking fresh, tasty meals at home with a variety of fresh ingredients, the Montgomery County office of PennState Extension reports.

It’s offering a March 14 (Thursday) webinar of just 60 minutes, starting at noon, that shows participants how to make “satisfying meals with fewer calories.” Advance registration is required, and is available online now through March 12 (Tuesday). The cost is $10 for access to both the webinar, and a video recording of the session for later review.

“Learn how to prepare a delicious meal … using weight management principles,” the county extension webpage explains. “This webinar will teach you easy tips to enjoy healthy eating! You will learn the basic principles of how to eat fewer calories and still feel full and satisfied.” Among its lessons: know what foods, and how much of them, to eat.

“We will demonstrate these concepts … by putting together an enjoyable low-calorie-density meal,” it adds. Then “we’ll share our recipes” to participants can incorporate them into their meal plans.”

LEBANON PA – If you’re looking for an in-person cooking workshop that offers greater depth and a hands-on experience, PennState Extension suggests something farther away … but that meets your needs.

“Let’s Cook Mediterranean” is an April 12 (Friday) in-person workshop of 2 hours, from noon to 2 p.m., scheduled to be held at the Lebanon County Extension office, 2120 Cornwall Rd., Ste. 1, Lebanon PA. Advance registration also is required, and is available online now through April 10 (Wednesday). The cost is $30.

“Join us for a tasty trip to the Mediterranean,” the Lebanon County webpage proclaims. “In this hands-on cooking class … you’ll create and enjoy an authentic Mediterranean meal (above) that’s healthy and delicious.” Participants will learn how to prepare a fresh and authentic Mediterranean dish, shopping tips, simple cooking techniques, and strategies for making dietary lifestyle changes.

“Our instructors help you with hands-on recipe preparation, walking you through every step,” the county adds. Best of all, “you will be able to taste-test what you cook during the class.”

The class is geared toward anyone interested in learning more about healthy eating, or new cooking techniques and recipes. It could be an ideal fit for aspiring chefs.

Admittedly, Lebanon is 47 miles west of Pottstown. Those driving to the event may want to enjoy an adventure before and after the sessions. Hint: there’s an abundance of antique shops and fashion boutiques along U.S. Route 422.
