ROYERSFORD PA – The planned re-opening of the Spring-Ford Area Historical Museum, which had been scheduled for Sunday (March 3, 2024), is being postponed, the museum reported in a newsletter update and on Facebook.
The re-opening has been moved to April 7 (2024; Sunday), it stated. Progress on various projects at the museum – revamping its exhibits and starting its front porch renovation – prompted the delay, the newsletter added. The porch renovation, budgeted at about $25,000, “is projected to extend into early April,” it explained.
“Due to these exciting projects, our original plan to open on March 3rd will now have to be pushed back,” the newsletter noted. “More information (will) follow in the coming weeks. Keep up to date by checking our Facebook page and our website.”
“We look forward to welcoming you back to the museum as we unveil our new look!,” it concluded.

S-F Historical Museum Re-Opens After Month of ‘Upheaval’
ROYERSFORD PA – After enduring about a month of what its newsletter describes as “major upheaval,” the museum at the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society, 526 Main St., is scheduled to re-open to the public Sunday (March 3, 2024) from 1-3 p.m.
The museum has undergone “a major transformation” of displays and exhibits, its members report, which prompted its closure throughout February. Changes affected “every room” of display spaces in both its Farmhouse and Gallery. Although a portion of its revisions won’t be entirely completed by opening day “a majority will,” the newsletter notes, representing cause for celebration.
Making its debut for the re-opening is an exhibit about photography, featuring the works of Horace Heistand, Harold Amster, and Joe Evans.
Evans, dubbed as “The Picture Taker,” is well known for his sports photos and particularly those of the Phillies baseball team. He was the scheduled speaker during a Feb. 25 society program at the Royersford VFW, with photos and copies of his coffee table-sized book, “A Fan’s Journey to a World Series Championship.”
After the re-opening, the museum intends to be regularly open weekly on Sundays from 1-3 p.m., Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and by appointment.
Porch improvements ahead
With the exhibit reorganization nearly complete, the historical society’s Board of Directors also announced plans during its February meeting to undertake a $25,000 renovation and repair of the front porch at its Main Street building (at top).
It’s been almost three years, the society said in a Facebook post, since the porch was available for events. A fund-raising effort attracted significant support, with about 75 percent of its goal already met.
Directors believe the remainder needed will arrive on time from generous donors. Those interested can make contributions online at its website, or by using PayPal, or with a check by mail to the society at PO Box 312, Royersford PA 19468.
