POTTSTOWN PA – Long-lasting friendships that endure through life’s ups-and-downs in a small, Southern town are celebrated during March as Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St., presents its production of “Steel Magnolias.”
The story takes place at Truvy’s Beauty Salon in Chinquapin LA where, bless your heart, there’s nothing more important than family, friends, and good hair. It’s the only place where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. It’s also where they bicker, share beauty tips and recipes, and swap more than an occasional bit of scandalous gossip.
Over time, they additionally forge a bond of friendship that carries them through personal triumphs and tragedies. Just like magnolias, these southern women are delicate, beautiful and ultimately, resilient.
The production will run from March 8-24, with Friday and Saturday night performances at 7 p.m., Sunday matinées at 2 p.m., and added Saturday matinées March 16 and 23 at 2 p.m.
- The March 16 matinée will be a relaxed performance intended for enjoyment by individuals with ADD, ADHD, dementia, autism, sensory sensitivities, or any patron who would enjoy a performance where they can freely express themselves.

Advance sale tickets and seating choices, available now online or by calling the theater box office at 610-970-1199, cost $29 for adults, $24 for those age 65 and older, and $17 for students. Running time for the two-act show is about 2 hours and 30 minutes with one intermission. The opening night sponsor is Ken Wilhelm, and the 2023-2024 season is sponsored by Scott and Susan Bentley.
“Steel Magnolias,” with a book by Robert Harling, illustrates the beauty of female relationships. Director Cathleen A. Sabatino explains it “highlights the struggles and triumphs of three generations of women, and how they hold each other up in the best and worst times of their lives. In the end, the show is heartwarming, and feels like a hug from your best friend.”
