Historical Society to Host Talk by Author Amy Cohen

Historical Society to Host Talk by Author Amy Cohen

February 14, 2024

NORRISTOWN PA – Educator, historian, and author Amy Cohen will discuss her book, “Black History in the Philadelphia Landscape,” during a presentation scheduled for Feb. 29 (2024; Thursday) at 7 p.m. by the Historical Society of Montgomery County in its offices at 1654 DeKalb St. It is free to attend and open to the public.

The book “offers a comprehensive look at the Black experience in the region … from the late 17th century to the 1960s,” the historical society said in a media release. Cohen “delves into significant events and historical figures, and how they are memorialized in the physical landscape,” it added.

The society also said it considers the book to be “an excellent resource for secondary students and beyond.”

The event will start with social time and book signings by Cohen at 6:30 p.m., followed by her 7 p.m. talk. She anticipates including time for audience questions, according to the society.

For more information, send an e-mail to society Executive Director Barry Rauhauser at barryr@hsmcpa.org, or call the society at 610-272-0297 during business hours: Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-8 p.m.
