Annual Flower Show Proclaims We’re ‘United by Flowers’

Annual Flower Show Proclaims We’re ‘United by Flowers’

February 12, 2024

PHILADELPHIA PA – “United by Flowers,” a celebration of communities that come together to share in a love of gardening, flowers, and plants, and the impact they make on our lives all year round, is the theme of the 2024 Philadelphia Flower Show. It is scheduled for March 2-10 (Saturday through Sunday) at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Tickets are available now online.

The show features what organizers call an “exciting lineup of new and returning experiences, and dozens of exhibitors that will help create the must-see floral spectacle.” Started in 1829 by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, it is the nation’s largest, and the world’s longest-running horticultural event.

Among this year’s exhibits

As they arrive at the event, visitors will see the show’s largest-ever created body of water. The society describes it as a “glass-like centerpiece” to showcase gracefully emerging floral sculptures and “a colossal aerial floral sculpture,” according to the society. The intent, it said, is to “seamlessly” connect water to sky “with bold angles and a kaleidoscope of colors” (at top)

Among exhibitors returning to the show this year are members of “Black Girl Florists,” a group created during the pandemic to seek community in the floral industry from other female, black florists. “The collective will express (its) love and support of each other by depicting unity in a hair salon, “a space where black women gather and connect organically,” a society media release stated.

On the show’s list of new exhibitors is United States Geological Survey Team, and its Native Bee Inventory and Monitoring Program. Its experts ask visitors to “bring pictures of your garden space” to the exhibit and discuss how gardeners can help “create a living space for our friends without backbones, the insects … It’s all about what you plant,” the team noted.

A full list of activities

As it has in the past, the flower show will again include a full series of hands-on activities intended to engage and educate both new and seasoned gardeners alike.

  • Know to Grow educational sessions. The show will host a newly re-imagined gardening speaker series on various topics up to four times a day. Topics include garden design, vegetable gardening, native plants, container gardening, shade gardening, rock gardening, and houseplants;
  • Artisan Row is the show’s experiential hub. With a purchase, guests can create a floral or gardening-inspired craft, working side-by-side with seven artisans. Prospective creations include fresh floral crowns, candles, floral handbags, floral bouquets, terrarium making, and botanical jewelry;
  • Butterflies Live! With ticketed admission, visitors of all ages can experience exotic butterfly species. Spend time with pollinators while enjoying a serene environment surrounded by flowering plants;
  • Kids Cocoon. Free with admission to the show, children can play, learn, and have fun in the show’s kid-centric play space with hourly programming from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. They have opportunities to plant a seedling, read a story, and enjoy activities from local horticulturally-focused partners;
  • Bloom Bar. Back by popular demand, Bloom Bar provides a walk-up experience offering guests the opportunity to purchase pre-assembled, fresh floral crowns in the heart of the Show floor; and
  • Potting Parties. With paid admission, earn tricks of the trade at these energetic container gardening workshops hosted by designer Tu Bloom, the official botanical artist of the Grammy® Awards. Take home a creation for lasting floral beauty.

Exclusive sponsors of the flower show are Bank of America and Independence Blue Cross. Official sponsors are Acme Markets, Bartlett Tree Experts, Belgard, EP Henry, Hendrick’s Gin, and The Sino-American Business & Travel Association.
