KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Clearing and grubbing operations, accompanied by lane closures, will continue next week on U.S. Route 422 and Porter and Sanatoga roads, the state Department of Transportation said.
The travel restrictions are due to an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve about 1.7 miles of the expressway, and replace two bridges, between its Sanatoga interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township. Drivers should anticipate:
- A single lane closure, Monday through Thursday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., on westbound 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard;
- A single lane closure, Monday through Thursday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on eastbound 422 between Armand Hammer and Evergreen;
- Reduction of Porter Road to a single lane with flagging, Monday through Thursday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., between East High Street and Sanatoga Station Road; and
- Reduction of Sanatoga Road to a single lane with flagging, Monday through Thursday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., between Linfield Road and East High Street.
PennDOT’s District 6 office in King of Prussia recommends drivers allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. Backups and delays will occur, it warned. All scheduled activities depend on acceptable weather.
The project is intended to extend 422’s design life, and improve ride quality and safety, PennDOT added. It also should “improve the current condition of roadside elements such as storm water basins, drainage inlets, slope stabilization, guide rail and signs that are in poor condition.”
The project is the seventh to move to construction under PennDOT’s initiative to rebuild and improve the 422 bypass near Pottstown. Since 2012, the agency said it has invested more than $260 million to improve the U.S. 422 corridor in Montgomery and Chester counties.
