Country Line Dancing Kicks Off at Pottsgrove Recreation

January 15, 2024

LOWER POTTSGROVE TOWNSHIP PA – A whole lotta whoopin’ and hollerin’, and plenty of country line dancing moves, can be expected in Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School during the next four months.

That would be noise from older generations, by the way; not the school’s young students.

A 10-session country line dancing class for those age 16 and older is scheduled from late January through mid-May on Wednesdays in the cafeteria at the school, 1329 Buchert Rd. The class, aptly named “Stompin’ Boots,” will be led by experienced local instructor Cindy DePaoli.

It’s being sponsored by the Pottsgrove Recreation Board, the organization that provides recreational opportunities to residents of Lower, Upper, and West Pottsgrove townships and the Pottsgrove School District. The first session is on the calendar for Jan. 31 (2024; Wednesday) from 7-8 p.m. Doors at the school will open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for participants cost $10 per session, and also are available at the discounted price of $80 for all 10 weekly sessions. Each occurs at the same time through May 15. Advance registrations are being taken online now.

Beginners welcomed

Don’t know a thing about line dancing or country music? That’s OK, Pottsgrove Recreation director Pam Ball promises. The class is open to dancers of all skill levels, the organization states, but beginners are particularly welcomed and will be made to “feel comfortable.”

Prospective participants are recommended to attend the class with a filled water bottle (dancing is thirsty fun!), and to wear “comfortable shoes that will slide.” They also should be aware that no session will be held “on days when school is closed due to a scheduled day off, or bad weather.”

DePaoli has enjoyed a long association with both Pottsgrove Recreation and country line dancing. She formerly taught for the recreation board back in the late 1990s, she explains in a video on the Pottsgrove Recreation Facebook page. DePaoli also taught line dancing for classes promoted by country music radio station WXTU. She’s a Pottsgrove High graduate who now calls Royersford home.

“I’m going to take it slow,” DePaoli says of the coming class. “I’m going to show (participants) exactly how (they) can have fun, and have great exercise too.”
