Spring-Ford Historians Focus on Limerick Restoration

Whoa! S-F Historical Society Adds 1916 Carousel Horse

December 10, 2023

ROYERSFORD PA – You can almost hear a whinny from the newest addition to the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society museum.

The society recently bought an 1916 riding horse figure that was part of the carousel at the former Lakeview Amusement Park, once located off U.S. Route 422 in Royersford, its newsletter reported. The society offered the winning bid for the horse at an auction. Its price was not disclosed.

“We are now the proud owners of a Lakeview carousel horse that had been on display in a Souderton flower and gift shop since it was purchased at a Lakeview Park auction in 1986,” the newsletter happily proclaimed. The flower shop was going out of business, it added.

The carousel horse currently is being shown in the Farmhouse parlor of the society museum, 526 Main St. It was transported to the building Dec. 2 (2023; Saturday), and set up near another figure, the Spring City Canal Store horse, obtained earlier by the society.

The historical society last attempted to buy a carousel item at auction during the summer of 2022, according to the newsletter, but was outbid.

The non-profit society is comprised of volunteers who operate its “museum of artifacts, print materials, and other research items that are connected to the boroughs of Spring City and Royersford.” It conducts entertaining and educational programs throughout the year. Its 2024 drive for new members and membership renewals is now under way.

Although the museum will be closed Dec. 24, 27, and 31 for the winter holiday, its regular operating hours are Sundays from 1-3 p.m., and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It also can be made available by appointment; send an e-mail to info@sfahs.com to request scheduling information.
