POTTSTOWN PA – Santa will cross the Schuylkill River in a dragonboat, piloted by the Pottstown DragonBoat Warriors, to arrive Saturday (Dec. 2, 2023) at 12:30 p.m. in the borough’s Riverfront Park on College Drive. He’ll then head downtown to celebrate the season with local residents. His appearance is hosted by Pottstown Area Economic Development.
After landing ashore, Santa is scheduled to walk through and greet people in the Schuylkill River National Heritage Area Interpretive Center. After 1 p.m., he’ll climb atop a Pottstown fire truck that will carry him to The Alley on High Street, 228 E. High St. Once there, he and visitors can enjoy the warmth of fire pits and browse through an outdoor craft fair.
A food truck will be on-site, with food and beverages available for purchase.
Visitors also will have a chance to win a community business gift card valued at $50. Pottstown Hospital-Tower Health is sponsoring a “Scavenger Hunt and Steps Challenge” to promote health and exercise from noon to 5 p.m. Participants, armed with instructive forms and pedometers, can depart from either Riverfront Park at 12:30 p.m., or from The Alley on High from noon to 3 p.m.
Their task will be to locate “elves” scattered at 25 downtown businesses. During their walk, they’ll also be able to see more than 30 themed holiday planters on High and Hanover streets, created by Pottstown businesses and organizations. Last year’s challenge encouraged participants to walk an average of 3.3 miles across various portions of the borough. A prize winner will be named when the challenge ends.
Also coinciding with Santa’s arrival are other planned activities:
- Self-guided tours with brochures will be offered to promote visits to the Interpretive Center (open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and to the Carousel at Pottstown (open from noon to 4 p.m.), the second-oldest carousel in the country;
- A 2:30 p.m. performance by singers from the TriCounty Active Adult Center is scheduled at The Alley on High; and
- The annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Smith Family Plaza, 138 E. High St., from 6-7 p.m. It will include caroling by Pottstown School District students, and cocoa and cookies.
