PHOENIXVILLE PA – Think of these as adding a slight twist to the definition of “holiday spirts.” Bluebird Distilling, the Phoenixville-based distillery that promotes creating all its spirits “from scratch on-site” at 100 Bridge St., on Friday (Nov. 24) continued a Black Friday tradition. It introduced a new release, its Sportsman Bourbon, and returned Winter Whiskey to its line-up.
Sportsman Bourbon is described as well-aged wheated bourbon whiskey inspired by “the rugged, refined spirit of the outdoorsman.” The high-proof bourbon features experimental blends and is aged for 7-1/2 years. It offers notes of honeysuckle, old oak and vanilla, the company stated; flavors of light honey, soft corn and leather; and a finish of baked pie and honey-laced vanilla.
Winter Whiskey, referred to as one that would “warm the coldest of adventures,” is a four-grain bourbon with “a pinch of brown sugar” and steeped in winter spices. It’s highly popular, the distillery noted; in some years past it reportedly has sold out in less than a day. In includes warm notes of vanilla, baking spices, orange zest and toffee.
“While we’ll still be making our tried-and-true spirits like the Winter Whiskey, we’re excited to be adding more unique spirits to our catalogue that are inspired by the outdoors and adventure,” Bluebird Distilling master distiller and founder Jared Adkins said in a media release.
Bluebird Distilling produces small batch whiskeys and other craft spirits using what it calls “a state-of-the-art hybrid copper still.” In addition to the Bridge Street, Phoenixville, location, it also operates at Char & Stave Coffee locations at 21 Rittenhouse Pl., Ardmore; and 8441 Germantown Ave., Chestnut Hill. It recently launched national shipping capabilities via Big Thirst, expanding its operations to 41 states.
