WILMINGTON DE – WSFS Bank, which operates branch offices in Phoenixville, Oaks, and Audubon, has launched its annual drive to collect food donations to benefit Greater Philadelphia and Delaware residents facing food insecurity, it announced.
The local banking offices and others in its network will serve as deposit centers for nonperishable donations through Dec. 31 (2023). WSFS Bank held a kick-off event Thursday (Oct. 12) to encourage its employees “to help jump-start the food drive” with their own non-perishable donations.
A bank official also asked “community members who have the means to search their hearts and cabinets, (and) make donations of non-perishable items at our banking offices.” Inflation and rising costs “continue to impact many households and their ability to put meals on the table,” she added.
Some food pantries serving southeastern Pennsylvania report they have seen a substantial increase in the demand for food and food boxes over last year. At the same time, they added, food donations have lagged.
