Dinner and Show Promo Returns for Ursinus, Restaurants
The comedy is being staged on staged Sept. 28 to Oct. 1

COLLEGEVILLE PA – A “dinner and show” promotion, featuring a comedic play and deals from local restaurants, is scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 28, 2023) to Oct. 1 in Collegeville.

The Shakespearean comedy, “Two Gentlemen of Verona,” will be staged by the Ursinus College Theater and Dance Department. It’s accompanied by dinner specials offered at 22 restaurants under a program coordinated by the Collegeville Economic Development Corp.

Performances are set for Thursday through Saturday (Sept. 28-30) at 7:30 p.m., as well as a Sunday (Oct. 1) matinée at 2 p.m. with an American Sign Language interpreter. All will be held in the Lenfest Theater at the college’s Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets for all shows cost $8, and $5 for seniors, students, and Ursinus faculty members and staff. Buy them online, or by calling the Ursinus box office at 610-409-3030.

How the deal works

Ticket buyers will receive a receipt to show at the participating restaurant on the day of the performance to earn the dinner special. For the Sunday afternoon matinée, the specials are available for either lunch or dinner. It is not necessary to participate in the dinner to attend the show.

Organizers suggest theater-goers should arrive at the box office at least 15 minutes before the show begins. Audience members also must present the same receipt at the Ursinus College box office to pick up their tickets.

A summary of the play? “Boy meets girl and falls in love. Boy’s best friend meets same girl, and falls in love. Best friend’s girlfriend disguises herself as a boy, only to discover best friend’s infidelity.” The comedy is described as “wild, exuberant, and madcap,” as young love blossoms, conflicts abound, and friendship is tested. Ursinus Professor Domenick Scudera is the director.

Participating restaurants

Restaurants offering dinner specials to customers who attend the performances include Aavya Fine Indian Cuisine, Bonjung Japanese Restaurant, China Jade, CHOW Bistro, Copperfield Inn, Collegeville Diner, El Gordo Bros Mexican Food, Forno Antico, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, Italian Delite, Marzella’s Pizza, My Friends Tavern, Osteria, Rocco’s Brick Oven Pizzeria, Siam Deluxe, The Spice Indian Restaurant, Thai Basil Bistro, The Pizza Stop, Tortugas Mexican Eatery, The Trappe Tavern, Troubles End Brewing, and Wame Shawarma on the Bridge.

To enjoy a leisurely dinner, patrons are urged to make reservations for and arrive at their chosen restaurant by 5:30 p.m. That will provide enough time to get to the Ursinus campus, organizers said.
