WEST READING PA – Dr. Debra L. Powell has been named chair of the Department of Medicine at Tower Health, the healthcare system announced Monday (Sept. 18, 2023). She had served as interim chair since September 2022.

In her continued and now official role, Tower Health said, she is responsible for leading physicians and advanced practice practitioners working for the non-profit across 14 divisions, including those in Pottstown and Phoenixville hospitals.

Powell also will continue in her additional roles as:

  • Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, since 2014;
  • Medical Director for Infection Prevention, since 2017; and
  • Co-Director for the Tower Health Antibiotic Stewardship, since 2017.

Powell began her career at Reading Hospital as a medical technologist in its Microbiology Department, and received her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She won the Pennsylvania Medical Society Excellent Care Award in March 2022 for her work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Lehigh Valley Business Circle of Excellence Women of Influence Award in April 2022.
