Spanish Language Food Safety Classes Set in Collegeville

LANCASTER PA – ServSafe food safety certification classes presented by Penn State Extension will be offered in Spanish during November in Collegeville, and earlier during October in Lebanon, its Lancaster office announced Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2023).

On the schedule are:

  • A class to be held Oct. 13 (Friday) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Oct. 18 (Wednesday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (attendance at both is required) at Penn State Extension in Lebanon County, 2120 Cornwall Rd., Lebanon PA. An accompanying certification exam will be on Oct. 18 from 1-3 p.m. Course registration is due by Oct. 6 (Friday); and
  • A class to be held Nov. 27 (Monday) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Dec. 4 (Monday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Penn State Extension in Montgomery County, 1015 Bridge Rd., Collegeville PA. An accompanying certification exam will be on Dec. 4 from 1-3 p.m. Course registration is due by Nov. 13 (Monday)

Penn State Extension works with federal, state and county government support to provide individuals, businesses, and communities with educational programs, products, and services.

A $165 fee is charged to cover the cost of the most recent edition of the ServSafe Manager book, exam, answer sheet, and learning materials. Register online, or by calling 877-345-0691. For more information about the courses, send an e-mail to educator Diana Angel at dangel@psu.edu.

The in-person trainings will help participants learn how to prevent contamination of food by properly receiving, storing, preparing, cooking, cooling, and serving food, as well as proper methods of sanitizing food service facilities. They are taught by certified ServSafe instructors who hold advanced degrees, and have received extensive training in food safety.

After completing the course and passing the multiple-choice exam with a score of 70 percent or higher, participants will receive a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate. Certification is valid for 5 years.
