DOUGLASSVILLE PA – A presentation on basket weavers of the Oley Valley is the featured third Saturday of September program planned by the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County.
Trust board member Vicky Heffner will talk about the valley’s key basket makers, including Rueben Reifsnyder, Milt Lorah, Ollie Strausser, and Freddie Beiber. She will display several examples of their baskets as well. Heffner, education curator at the Berks History Center, has been a basket maker for more than 15 years.
The discussion is scheduled for Sept. 16 (2023; Saturday) at 11 a.m. at The White Horse Inn in Morlatton Village, 31 Old Philadelphia Pike. A $2 per person donation is suggested for those who attend. Proceeds benefit the work of the trust.
The trust is a non-profit organization that acquires, preserves, and maintains historically and architecturally significant properties in Berks County. It hopes to inform visitors about roles its sites played in Pennsylvania and American history. For more information, call 610-385-4762 or send an e-mail to info@historicpreservationtrust.org.
