CHDC Celebrates Health Mission with August Fair

CHDC Celebrates Health Mission with August Fair

POTTSTOWN PA – National Health Center Week, observed from Aug. 6-12 (2023), will be celebrated by Pottstown-based Community Health & Dental Care Inc. with a community health fair. It’s scheduled for Aug. 11 (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its offices in The Shoppes at Coventry, 351 W. Schuylkill Rd.

Community Health & Dental Care, which opened in 2008, is designated as a federally qualified health center. It receives annual funding from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.

The special week is intended to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers during the past five decades, and for the next five. Its 2023 theme is “Community Health Centers: The Roadmap to a Stronger America.”

Throughout the week, the practice will showcase how it provides high-quality health care, improves health outcomes, and narrows health disparities.

Coming to the health fair

Then on Aug. 11, Community Health & Dental Care invites all residents of the tri-county area to join with more than 30 community partners for a busy afternoon. It’s expected to be filled with health information, an array of community resources, backpacks and other give-aways, activities for kids and adults, refreshments, and free blood pressure screenings.

Everyone who attends the health fair will receive a free raffle ticket. It represents a chance to win a basket filled with health goodies and cash prizes. Those who attend will also have an opportunity to earn additional raffle tickets by participating at various tables and in activities, or by supporting the Street Medicine Program.

In the backpack give-away, 100 backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies will be offered to any student under age 18 who needs a backpack to start the school year. Those in need should stop by early, as supplies are limited.

Legal Aid of Southeast Pennsylvania, a non-profit law firm, will be on-site to provide information on how to obtain free legal advice, as well as no-cost assistance with wills and advance directives for those who qualify.

Participants and partners

Community organizations participating in the health fair include Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, Pottstown Hospital Tower Health, TriCounty Active Adult Center, YWCA TriCounty, Pottstown Library, Boyertown Area Multi-Service, Pottstown YMCA, Police Athletic League, Montgomery County Community College, and others.

Health fair partner sponsors supplying donations and support include Aetna Medicare, Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, UPMC Health Plan, and Warwick Childcare Centers. Target and Wawa supplied in-kind donations.
