PENNSBURG PA – Who says summer camp is only for kids? Not the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center in Pennsburg!
Adults can register online now for one or more Thursdays to create art with local experts at the center, 105 Seminary St., and will remain open until classes fill. Registration also will be taken by phone at 215-679-3103. Available are opportunities to:
- Paint miniatures with Ruth Williams on July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In “Silhouettes by Ruth Williams,” participants will complete a portrait-themed project of their choosing, either a cut or painted silhouette, or a watercolor profile portrait styled after early colonial works. The cost is $60 for the workshop, and $15 for materials.
- Weave a basket with Karen Wychcok on Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Weave a Wall Basket by Karen Wychock” does not require prior weaving experience. The finished reed basket with oak handle, though, will have patterns and colors of the camper’s design. The cost is $60 for the workshop fee, and $40 for materials. And;
- Create a hex sign with Rachel Yoder on Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Hex Sign Painting by Rachel Yoder” rounds out the camp experience. All participants will create their own 12-inch rosette hex sign, inspired by traditional Pennsylvania Dutch themes and colors. The cost is $60 for the workshop, and $20 for materials.
Participants can bring a bag lunch, if desired. Additional details about the teachers and camp sessions are available on specific dates at the center’s Calendar webpage.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is the regional history museum for the Upper Perkiomen Valley. It is open Tuesdays through Sundays, and admission to visit exhibits or conduct research in the library is free.
