NORTH COVENTRY PA – The six-night ride, game, and food event that is the NorCo Fire Company annual fair opened Monday (July 3, 2023) at 6 p.m. on the fire company grounds, 144 W. Schuylkill Rd. It’s an Independence Holiday week-long tradition that dates back to the 1950s, and earns the bulk of the fire company’s revenues each year.
Parking is available at the grounds for a donation. The fair is well-lit and pleasantly noisy. Depending on the night and the hour, it can be excitingly crowded with people.
Lackawanna County-based SwikaS Amusements is providing amusement rides, carnival games, and food concessions. Not to be passed by, though – for those of the proper age – are the Sly Fox Beer Garden, and the Splash Bar with wine and mixed drinks. North Coventry volunteer firefighters are busy whipping up a wide variety of their own food offerings as well, including seafood and walking tacos.
All rides require purchased tickets. As with most other fairs, the amusement bargain is a wristband that lets the wearer ride on anything that looks like fun, as many times as desired, for a full night. For those so inclined, that’s several hours of potentially dizzying entertainment.
Even that deal has an accompanying better deal. Wednesday (July 5) is the fire company’s food drive night to benefit the North Coventry Food Pantry. Fair patrons who bring three non-perishable food items to donate to the pantry receive a $5 discount on wristband purchases.
The fair’s fireworks show is scheduled for Friday (July 7) at 9:30 p.m. If inclement weather threatens, the fireworks rain date is Saturday (July 8), also at 9:30 p.m.
