LIMERICK PA – Thousands of people turned out and cars filled parking lots Saturday and Sunday (June 10-11, 2023) as the Philadelphia Premium Outlets on Lightcap Road, owned by Illinois-based Simon Property Group, observed a successful second anniversary of its “National Outlet Shopping Day.”
The two-day event represents a self-proclaimed holiday by the real estate investment trust, specifically intended to promote shopping. Stores inside the Limerick outlets center, and according to some reports at others among Simon’s more than 90 Premium Outlets and Mills’ properties nationwide, bustled with activity and ringing cash registers.
Last year’s inaugural event attracted millions of deal-hunters to Simon centers across the country, it said. Judged by observation of the crowds at Limerick and the volume of shopping bags they carried, this year’s local activity seemed equally robust.
“More than 5,300 distinct, limited time offers from 400 retailers” were featured in a digital savings offer guide created for the day, Simon added in a media release. It claimed a 33-percent increase in participation over 2022.
Also during the week that preceded the event, Simon drummed up interest with a series of live-streamed online events in which social media and other influencers provided commentary as video cameras visited stores at selected outlets.
“Word-of-mouth momentum, more great deals, and shoppers seeking value in the current economy” prompted Simon to anticipate a big draw, Chief Marketing Officer Mikael Thygesen said.
