Camping World to Buy Boyertown Area RV Dealership

Camping World to Buy Boyertown Area RV Dealership

June 8, 2023

BOYERTOWN PA – Three Mid-Atlantic recreational vehicle dealerships owned by Delaware-based Hitch RV LLC – including its 890 Swinehart Rd., Boyertown, location – will be sold to Camping World Holdings Inc. of Lincolnshire IL, Camping World said Wednesday (June 8, 2023) in a media release.

The purchase price was not disclosed. The sale, which also includes locations in Milford DE and Berlin NJ, is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, Camping World said. It added that Hitch RV principal Tim Waters would join its management team.

The acquisition comes as Camping World, which calls itself “America’s largest retailer of RVs and related products and services,” looks to expand in the Northeast. Buying the Delaware dealership will represent its first entry into that state; it already has operations in 42 others under the “Camping World” and “Good Sam” brand names.

Within Pennsylvania, the company also has retail sales outlets in Hamburg, Harrisburg, and Hanover.

The Boyertown location enjoyed a decades-long history in the RV business as the Berks-Mont Camping Center under the ownership of the Shellenberger family, which according to its website bought it in 1998. Hitch RV apparently became involved around or after 2020, the website indicated.

Camping World CEO and Chairman Marcus Lemonis said “Hitch RV has been proudly serving the Mid-Atlantic region for over 15 years,” and added he was “excited” to both work with Waters and increase the company’s “leading market share positions” in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Camping World is also hiring for new staffers, it said. Applications are being accepted online.
